9 Important Protein Sources Often Overlooked


When you talk about proteins, the first thing that pops up in people's mind is meat .Plant proteins are often overlooked, with most people preferring animal proteins mostly because of the flavors. What people don’t know is those plant proteins are just as essential if not better than animal proteins. They are not only for vegetarians.

1.    Legumes 

Beans, peas and lentils are important protein sources. Additionally they contain iron and vitamins that boost your metabolism. Plant proteins also produce help produce testosterone in men and improving the immune system leaving you feeling energized.

2.    Soy

Soybeans are fantastic protein sources. They have iron and vitamins that regulate your blood sugar level and metabolism. Soy sauce and powder are often recommended for people with high blood pressure.

3.    Lentils

Just like beans, lentils have a lot of proteins that essential for body building and improved metabolism. They also act as antioxidants.

4.    Almonds

Almonds have quite a substantial amount of proteins, vitamins and natural sugars that are essential for body building. You can use them in cakes and even make juices with fresh almonds for maximum benefits.

5.    Brussel  sprouts

These are hard to find but are very beneficial if you do. Just like beans and other legumes, they have a substantial amount of proteins that is good for your body. They make excellent vegetable salads.

6.    Oysters

Although not entirely included in the plant protein they are excellent protein sources from the sea. You should probably consider having oysters instead of fish for your protein diet.

7.    Spirulina

For years, spirulina supplements have been used to improve people's overall health and to encourage proper nutrition. The alga has also been known to increase energy in athletes’ and even prevent progression of cancer. This has been attributed this to its high protein, iron and vitamin nutrients content that is essential for the body.

You can take spirulina supplements in tablet form, or as an ingredient in cakes, smoothies and juices.
This way the body works on the healthy non-fattening nutrients of spirulina and hence the consumer does not get hunger pangs. It also boosts their energy.

8.    Nuts 

Walnuts, cashew and ground /peanuts are excellent sources of plant proteins and essential oils that boost metabolism, energy levels and sexual vitality too.
The best thing about the above sources of proteins is that one can take them without fear of unintended weight gain. When taken in moderation, they are just as good if not better than animal protein sources.
