What a Bad Posture Does to Your Health



Getting a good posture does not come automatically for everyone; most of us have to work at it. Especially if you are used to slouching when walking because you are too tall or working endless hours leaning on an office desk, it is almost impossible to get a good posture. That is why it is recommended that you get avoid bending your bones too often if it is at the office get a good armchair with a firm back and walk up straight.

But it is not only everyday activities that give you a bad posture, fitness routines can result in awkward postures too. For example, if you over do the chest movements and do not incorporate enough rear and back movements, it can increase chances of you developing a poor posture. Poor posture is a natural development that the body succumbs to as a way of adapting to the situations that it is subjected to.

Everyone no matter their age to work to improve or maintain their postures as bad posture usually leads to the following;


Wrong alignment of your spinal vertebrae


When you slouch for a long time, your backbone is forced to bend in that direction too. If this posture is repeated for a long time, eventually your spinal vertebrae will permanently develop that way and leave you with a permanently slouched position that is almost impossible to correct without surgery. This can happen to both adults and children, denting your posture for life.


Constriction of nerves


Your nerves are likely to constrict if too much pressure is placed on them. This can lead to death of cells rendering parts of your body to a slow death.



Stress levels increase


Studies have shown that people with bad posture are often in bad moods yet they can not figure out why. This because the body keeps sending signals to the brain that there is something wrong with a part of the body.




Headaches


Migraines and severe headaches may be caused by bad posture-aches and pains are the body’s way of telling you, something is wrong on a part of the body.




Increased injury risk 


Well, if you overwork one part of the body, it is likely to break easily increasing chances of you getting injury or bone damage.


Poor self-image


If you have ever noticed, most people with bad posture are not usually the most confident. It is embarrassing to walk or stand differently, and, unfortunately, bad posture always stands out.
Now that you know the dangers caused by bad posture to your health, how about you avoid it.

First be conscious of how you sit or stand and avoid long periods of slouching, Stretch your body often after a while of slouching, If you are used to sleeping on one side try other positions with time the body will adjust. At the gym, you can work on your posture by trying out a variety of warm up exercises like stretching, extensions, etc.
